Students, Faculty, and Staff

Students can install this software on their personal computers as part of their coursework or research projects; faculty and staff can use VMware software under specific program usage guidelines free of charge for academic research and classroom instruction.

NOTE: The VMWare client is different from VLab, the virtual desktop offered to all members of LSU which allows access to Computer Lab software remotely. You may install VLab virtual desktop with the following instructions: Virtual Lab (VLab): LSU Overview & Download. If you are having issues accessing software on VLab such as SPSS, please reach out to servicedesk@lsu.edu for assistance.

To download VMware client, you can simply download from the new VMWare Broadcom portal after creating a Broadcom account: Broadcom - Download VMWare

For help accessing VMWare via the Broadcom portal, please see this guide: https://www.mikeroysoft.com/post/download-fusion-ws/

Please note that VMWare's license model has changed to free for personal/academic use and our previous academic license will be discontinued. You will no longer need to request licenses and can simply download from the new VMWare Broadcom portal after creating a Broadcom account: Broadcom - Download VMWare

MATLAB
By MathWorks
For Students, Faculty

MATLAB is a numerical computing environment and programming language. Created by The MathWorks, MATLAB allows easy matrix manipulation, plotting of functions and data, implementation of algorithms, creation of user interfaces, and interfacing with programs in other languages. Although it specializes in numerical computing, an optional toolbox interfaces with the Maple symbolic engine, allowing it to be part of a full computer algebra system.

Students can use the software via VLAB and can download directly via the MatLab website using the following instructions: MatLab: Create a New Account or Sign In

Faculty, Staff, and Students can also access the software in on-campus Public Access Computer labs, in the LSU Library.

For additional information and how to access, see: MatLab: LSU Overview.
