In addition to free licenses for instruction and research, VMware also provides academic institutions and affiliated organizations special discounts on VMware software and support when deployed as a part of their IT infrastructure.

Students can install this software on their personal computers as part of their coursework or research projects; faculty and staff can use VMware software under specific program usage guidelines free of charge for academic research and classroom instruction.
